Well, good day. I'm Jeffrey Leboff. I'm the Executive Director of the American Osteopathic College of Occupational Medicine, and I would like to welcome you to the 2022 Mid-Year Educational Conference, which was held between May 12th and 15th, 2022. This first module is a prerequisite. It's some required disclosures as well as a little information about the college, and it should last about eight minutes. So our college is a group of medical specialists in the fields of preventive medicine. There are three divisions of preventive medicine. There's occupational medicine, which includes disability and impairment medicine. Public health and general preventive medicine includes correctional medicine and aerospace medicine, which also has a branch of undersea and hyperbaric medicine. What's common about all of these various parts of public health is that they all deal with specific populations of patients. So our college exists really for two purposes, for collegial support and networking and also to provide continuing medical education in addition to our two meetings a year, which is our mid-year meeting. Normally we hold that in March. We've had to slide that meeting in the last couple of years due to COVID outbreaks, but we normally do an independent, what we call our mid-year meeting in March, and then we do one of the specialty colleges that participates in the AOA's annual OMED meeting, which is normally in October. So those are our two big meetings a year. We usually will have one or more of our special courses in conjunction with these two meetings, and we'll talk more about those special courses in a subsequent slide, but our basic course in occupational medicine is a pathway to becoming, to be deemed eligible to sit for a certificate of added qualification in occupational medicine. And this is for physicians that maintain a primary board certification by the AOA in any discipline. We do have a sister organization. Mainly, this is a branding strategy that's called OPAM, Occupational Preventive and Aerospace Medicine, in order to broaden our market of for our special courses, which would include physicians assistants, advanced practice nurse practitioners, and MDs. So our current OPAM workshops include our basic course in occupational medicine. That's a three-part course. You do not need to take the parts in order. You can jump in at any time. We also have our medical review officer course, which deals with how to properly collect a chain of custody and whatnot for various types of drug testing, urine, spit, hair, sweat. And then we do the Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, National Registry of Certified Medical Examiner courses. So if you're going to be doing commercial driver physicals, we have a course that qualifies you to sit the FMCSA's exam. So I'm required to read our accreditation statement. This mid-year 2022 activity, the Enduring Materials Activity, which you'll be participating in, has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, or ACCME, through a joint providership of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Osteopathic College of Occupational Preventive Medicine. The AOA is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. This course has been approved for 24 Category 1A AOACME credits, and the American Osteopathic Association designates this activity for a maximum of 24 AMAPRA Category 1 credits. Physicians should only claim the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Disclosures. The American Osteopathic Association has implemented a policy to comply with the current Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education standards for integrity and independence in accredited continuing education requiring resolution of all conflicts of interest. Faculty declaring irrelevant commercial interests must be identified in the activity syllabus and or the program. In accordance with disclosure policies of the AOA and the ACCME, every effort has been made to ensure all CME activities are balanced, independent, objective, and scientifically rigorous. These policies include complying with ACCME standards of integrity and independence in accredited continuing education and resolving all possible conflicts of interest for all individuals in control of the content. All relevant financial relationships have been mitigated. None of our faculty, with the exception of these, had any disclosures. The faculty disclosures that we wish to inform you of now, Dr. Valtracitis, who's doing a lead update, disclosed that he works as a consultant for the Clarios battery plant. Dr. Allison Bested is going to mention off-label drug use, which is low dose naltrexone. And Dr. Patrick O'Malley receives a royalty from both Medline and Rescue Essentials for Medical Devices. He also does consulting and editorial review for EB Medicine. As I mentioned, all the faculty have no disclosures or conflicts to report. A disclaimer, the information in this educational course is provided for general medical education purposes only, and is not meant to substitute for the independent medical judgment of a physician relative to diagnostic and treatment options of a specific patient's medical condition. The viewpoints expressed in this CME activity are those of the authors and faculty. They do not represent an endorsement by the AOA. In no event will the AOA be liable for any decision made or action taken in reliance upon the information provided through this CME course. The AOA and AOCOPM acknowledge that no support other than course registration fees have been accepted in the offering of this course. We have a grievance procedure. Please let me, Jeffrey LaBeouf, or one of our officers know immediately if you have any problems with facilities. You're obviously doing this online, but any of the program content or any other issue with the conference. Concerns about the CMP program's compliance with our AOA guidelines may be expressed to me, or you could call our office 800-558-8686. We can provide you copies of the guidelines. They're also on the AOA's website. You could also call the AOA division of CME, and I've got the number here for you. There is a firewall between our college, AOCOPM. We're a specialty college. We're a professional membership organization. We exist to provide CME. We're the teaching entity. AOBPM, the American Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine, is your certifying board, and that's a business unit of the American Osteopathic Association. Our board, the American Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine, administers board exams in three primary disciplines, public health, aerospace medicine, and occupational medicine, and it administers subspecialty exams in correctional medicine and undersea hyperbaric medicine, as well as an exam for the certificate of added qualification in occupational medicine, which the college's basic course is one way to qualify to sit that CAQ exam. So here's our website, and also feel free to email Rhonda, R-O-N-D-A, no H, R-O-N-D-A at AOCOPM.org. If you have any questions or technical difficulties with the course, or if you'd like to learn more about the college, we would love to visit with you. Thank you very much, and enjoy your course.
