So there's a few techniques we can use to treat that first rib cervical thoracic junction. We're looking over the area of the thoracic inlet. What we do with these two soft tissue techniques with different variations. The first one kind of a forward flexion soft tissue technique we kind of call the X technique. We will put one hand over the other creating like an X and just leaning the head forward. We can use this to stretch the area themselves. We can also use this after holding it for a little while to get this to stretch out. We can also go to the side leaning in or even using your hand to hold it in that direction. You can go to both sides doing that. You can also use this technique to use a muscle energy variation where we'll take this forward and have them push back against us. Again three, two, one. We'll back away from the barrier. Wait about three seconds. Let's go forward some more. Push back three, two, one. Back off and then again forward. Push back three, two, one. We can do this in both directions taking it to one side having to do the same thing and press back to the center. We can do this in one direction and do it in the other direction as well. Those are variations we can do with that. The other technique we can do is a trapezius pinch. Trapezius pinch remember is one of the techniques where you can get hands right over the trapezius center not too close to the neck. Some people press on carotids. Just hold the area themselves and you're going to gently squeeze it. Hold it with some firm pressure themselves. When you do it hold it again for about five seconds or so and after five seconds squeeze a little bit more. Again this is kind of also has a it's like a direct myofascial release component like an inhibition technique. So just squeeze that and hold that. So gently squeeze it and wait about five seconds. Squeeze a little bit more and repeat that three to five times. You gently squeeze that a little bit more to help decrease the kind of muscle, the tightness the muscle has and almost the contracture of the muscle.
Video Summary
This video discusses techniques for treating the first rib cervical thoracic junction. It covers two main methods: the "X technique," involving forward flexion and side stretching to alleviate tension, and a muscle energy variation, where resistance is applied by the patient pushing back gently. Additionally, it describes the trapezius pinch technique, which involves squeezing the trapezius muscle to release tension and tightness, promoting muscle relaxation. Each technique involves holding pressure and applying gentle adjustments to improve muscle flexibility and relieve discomfort.
