We've always been a family of animal lovers. My children, who are now grown, have never known life without a dog. Animal welfare is something very close to my heart, so when I discovered the inhumane atrocities that are occurring within the furnishings industry, I transitioned my interior design business to no longer use anything derived from animals. I've shown my clients that great spaces can be fabulous, well-priced, and save animals, whether it be for a home office or a hotel. Cruelty-free furniture fits in perfectly with my design philosophy, since my initial steps when beginning the project are addressing my clients' sensory needs, meaning I discover which textures, colors, lighting, smells, and even sounds feel good or are aggravating to them. We're all unique in what type of environment brings out the best in us. Sensory design is all about that. My sensory needs are different than yours or different than someone in the spectrum of autism, for example. Humane furniture as a whole is gentler on the senses. The fabrics don't have the strong smell of animal hives or the uncomfortable scratchiness of wool, and they originate from a compassionate place. I believe that good design should reflect who we are, bring out the best in us, and contribute to a better world. Beauty, compassion, and peace. That's my mantra.
