Scholar 7

OVERVIEW:

With a single GME accreditation system, there is a need to develop scholarly work within osteopathic training programs. Although many forms of scholarly work are available, Scholar 7 focuses on the basic skills needed to create a scholarly environment within a practice, institution, or residency training program.

This course is a series of seven video workshops. The program leads participants through the scholarly process and helps make initiating a research project less difficult. Participants will be guided through developing a hypothesis, creating specific aims, gathering preliminary data, defining materials and methods, and making conclusions. The completed document can serve as an Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and grant proposal (though the IRB submission process may vary from institution to institution).

This series can be used for fellow, resident, intern, and student training at the beginning of each year. It can also be used as faculty development within institutions or just taken to learn more about the research process.

Speakers: Robert W. Hostoffer, Jr., DO; Brian P. Peppers, DO, PhD

OBJECTIVES:

Develop a simple, single-sentence hypothesis based on feasibility and literature review

Develop an introduction, specific aims, material and methods, preliminary data, and conclusion based on the hypothesis created

Develop a scholarly document containing the above components to be utilized as a grant application and IRB component

Expiration Date:  October 21, 2026

The OOA designates this activity for a maximum of 3.25 AOA Category 1-A Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
