Statement of Need
The goal of this series is to explore the clinical presentation of venous thromboembolism (VTE), common misdiagnoses, key challenges across the continuum of VTE management, and how fragmented care systems and complex anticoagulation regimens impact patients’ understanding, confidence, and adherence in VTE management. The series also covers anticoagulation therapy, including medication and monitoring; lifestyle modifications and risk-factor management to prevent recurrence; and the importance of regular monitoring.


Learning Objectives
After participating in this activity, attendees will be able to:
  • Identify and describe the clinical presentation of VTE
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques, such as imaging studies and blood tests, to accurately diagnose VTE
  • Identify and avoid common misdiagnoses associated with VTE
  • Apply diagnostic strategies to accurately differentiate VTE from other possible conditions
  • Identify the key challenges in VTE transitions of care
  • Apply best practices for effective communication and care coordination
  • Implement evidence-based strategies for patient education and adherence
  • Develop preparedness for emergency situations in VTE management
  • Identify common challenges patients face when navigating fragmented cares systems and complex anticoagulation regimens and apply empathetic communication strategies to address them
  • Describe the role of shared decision-making in VTE management and how patient perspectives influence understanding and adherence to clinical guidance
  • Identify key barriers to treatment adherence and follow-up in VTE care and integrate patient-centered approaches to improve care coordination and outcomes
  • Analyze and apply principles of anticoagulation therapy
  • Design lifestyle modifications and manage risk factors to reduce the likelihood of VTE recurrence
  • Establish and follow regular monitoring protocols to assess treatment efficacy and adjust therapies as needed
  • Recognize and address potential complications and recurrence
  • Assess and manage VTE recurrence in special patient populations with unique health conditions or higher risk
  • Create effective patient education strategies while providing ongoing support
